Will Prescott with Greenville Utilities Commission recognized as a Damage Prevention Most Valuable Professional

Will Prescott currently serves as Chief Utility Locator for Greenville Utilities Commission.  He has served in this position for 7.5 years.  Will has more than 22 years of locating experience.  He currently manages a team of 10 other locators who are responsible for locating electric, water, sanitary sewer, natural gas and fiber optic cable facilities in Greenville and the surrounding areas within Pitt County. He also performs damage investigations for any damages that occur to Greenville Utilities facilities.  He is actively involved in the Pitt County UCC meetings and currently serves as the chair.  He has served as an instructor at several Annual North Carolina/South Carolina Joint Utility Coordinating Committee Conferences.  He was the lead instruction for a locating class offered at a Mock Gas Line Strike Demonstration sponsored by North Carolina 811.  

He holds certifications from Staking University, a world recognized locate training organization.  He has a passion for helping those involved in locating utilities to be the best they can.  He has a strong desire to bring professionalism to the locate industry and is working towards having a state certification program for all locators within the utility industry.  Will works proactively with excavators in their area to coordinate the locate request with the work being done.  He likes to say “let your work drive your locate tickets”.  This helps avoid unnecessary locate tickets and allows his team to work more efficiently and locate where actual construction is taking place.
