Damage Prevention Leaders Come Together to Keep Kids Warm This Winter

In the wake of the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene last year, our Western communities need many things this winter. Damage prevention leaders North Carolina 811, S&N Communications, Stake Center Locating and Ditch Witch Sales of North Carolina launched a heartwarming initiative to collect 500 new coats for children in need, ensuring that every child in our community stays warm this winter.

The coat drive, which ran from October 25 through November 25, exceeded all expectations, collecting a total of 1,077 new coats. These coats were distributed to several local organizations, including New Life Community Church, Samaritan’s Purse, Hearts with Hands, Cane Middle School in Burnsville, Project Skyline, and the Town of Lake Lure.

“We required new coats to ensure the highest health and safety standards for those receiving them,” said Ann Rushing with North Carolina 811. “By providing new coats, we can ensure that everyone receives a clean, safe, and comfortable item.”

A special thanks goes to our partner, NUCA of the Carolinas, for their generous donation of 36 coats toward the project. The success of this coat drive would not have been possible without the support and donations from our community members.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this cause. Your generosity has made a significant difference in the lives of many children in our western communities.
